Winter Hair Tips you should try

winter hair

As the winter months arrive it’s time to start carefully considering our self-maintenance to keep healthy over winter and this also covers our hair. Following our previous article on how to winter proof your make up, here we have 6 tips to help keep your hair healthy and beautiful this winter.

1.      Hats

A very simple tip to help protect your hair this winter is to wear a hat and keep your hair covered from the wintery elements. As much as we hate the dreaded hat hair, we have a top tip to keep your hair protected and in style. Before pulling on your beanie, try wrapping you hair in a silk scarf, which will protect your hair from rubbing against the material and cut out static.

2.      Deep Conditioning

Like your skin your hair will dry out on winter months and it needs hydration. Try and set one day a week to treat your hair to a nourishing deep conditioning treatment to help replenish moisture. You can find many different types of conditioning treatments and Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Moisture Lock One Minute Mask is a quick fix to bring some life back into your hair. A more homemade method would be to use a wide tooth comb to remove tangles and apply raw honey from the root to the tips, cover up your hair with a shower cap or towel and leave for 30 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water.

3.      Minimal washing

Try and only wash your hair two to three times a week to help prevent your hair drying out too much. Also make sure your hair is completely dry before leaving the house as cold air on wet hair can leave you hair dry and brittle.

4.      Keep up with Trimming

Regular trims are one of the best ways to keep your hair in good health. Try and make appointments every six to eight weeks to reduce you dry split ends and keep your hair looking nourished.

5.      Humidifier

Over winter invest in a humidifier, not only will it keep your skin hydrated but it will help your hair from feeling dry and brittle.

6.      Olive oil

Try warming up two teaspoons of olive oil and massage gently into your scalp. Slowly massaging the oil into the scalp will help the oil seep into the roots. This will allow the scalp to stay moisturised and help improve blood circulation. Olive oil is also proven to help prevent hair fall out. If this isn’t an ideal method then try mixing olive oil into your deep conditioning treatment for you hair to allow the same benefits.
